 The province of Aklan was legally created on 25 April 1956 with the signing into law of Republic Act No. 1414 by Pres. Ramon Magsaysay, declaring the partition of the province  of Capiz into two provinces, Aklan and Capiz.

House Bill No.334  was introduced by Congressman Godofredo P. Ramos in the House of Representatives on  28 January 1954.

It was reported out favorably under Committee Report No. 1228 by the House Committee on Provincial and Municipal Governments on 25 March 1955.

The bill was approved by the House of Representatives on Second Reading on 9 May 1955.

It was approved by the House of Representatives on Third Reading and sent to the Senate on 16 May 1955 for concurrence.

It was passed by the Senate without amendment on 16 April 1956.

IT WAS APPROVED BY PRESIDENT RAMON MAGSAYSAY ON  25 APRIL  1956  AS REPUBLIC ACT NO. 1414.

Pres. Ramon Magsaysay appointed Jose Raz Meņez as governor of the new province of Aklan. The appointed governor served until 20 December 1959.
